Venous Leg Ulcers

A venous leg ulcer is a non-healing open wound that is caused by venous pump failure.  It usually occurs near the inside of the ankle, but can be found anywhere below the knee.  It can occur with or without visible varicose veins.

Chronic venous insufficiency is caused by venus reflux, which can cause venous spider veins, leg swelling and leg ulcers.

Symptoms of an ulcer typically include a red, open, draining, non-healing, painful wound in a swollen leg.

For more information about the treatment of venous leg ulcers, call LifeBridge Health at 410-601-WELL (9355).
